My Top Ten Bands

Ok, I have been tagged, and I really hope its the last time, but, nevertheless, here it goes.
Hope you dont like it.

ENA PÁ 2000

The satirical rock band Ena Pá 2000 (Holy Cow 2000) has been Lisbon's most interesting musical act for more than 20 years. Performing since the early 80's they have generated legions of dedicated fans who go wild for their surreal shows, mad antics, obscene lyrics and, most of all, catchy tunes. Ena Pá 2000 have a visual style that reflects a hodgepodge of theatrical influences and play music that ranges from mutated traditional standards to deconstructedrock & roll (with the occasional rumba, tango or samba thrown in). Basically anything goes - their anarchist attitude is a catalyst for fun and to make fun of everything and everyone. Ena Pá 2000's original goal was to become the worst band in the world. At that, they've failed miserably.

Ena Pá 2000's mercurial frontman is Manuel João Vieira. Also known as Lello Minsk, Lello Universal, Elvis Ramalho and Orgasmo Carlos, he's the lead singer, guitarist and composer for two other underground bands - Irmãos Catita (Catita Brothers), a burlesque, cabaret style project and Coracões de Atum (Hearts of Tuna), a lounge, jazzy offshoot. When he's not playing with Ena Pá 2000 or his other projects, Vieira can be found getting drunk in Lisbon Fado dives, painting and running for President.

Metallica

"Under the dead of night, with the four horseman ride, or choose your fate and die..."

If you dont know metallica, your not from planet earth.

Metallica is an  heavy metal  band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1981.  Metallica has become one of the most commercially successful musical acts of recent decades, and are considered one of the "Big Four" pioneers of thrash metal, along with Anthrax, Slayer, and Megadeth. The band has sold more than 90 million records worldwide,

The gods of metal need no presentation, they just unleash power everytime they get on stage, or simply, everytime you turn on the music they make ( be carefull not to listen to music from them downloaded from Napster).
From Kill´em´all to St. Anger, a neverending stream of energy and inteligence flows.
Just listen to it and enjoy.

Fanfare Ciocarlia

Did you asked for a gipsy brass band on speeds?  Have a taste of these guys...They are best known for a very fast, high-energy sound, with complex rhythms and high-speed, staccato clarinet, saxophone and trumpet solos, sometimes performed at more than 200 beats per minute. They are also known for using no sheet music in their performances, sometimes randomly blasting their horns and clarinets in the middle of a song, and for playing old, battered instruments onstage

Fanfare Ciocărlia (alternate spelling Ciocârlia) is a popular twelve-piece Roma brass band from the northeastern Romanian village of Zece Prăjini.
The band began as a loose assemblage of part-time musicians playing at local weddings and baptisms. In October 1996, the German sound engineer and record producer Henry Ernst visited Zece Prajini and convinced a number of the musicians there to assemble a touring band. Ernst decided to name the band Fanfare Ciocărlia: Fanfare being a French word that has passed into Romanian and is used to designate a brass band; Ciocârlia being the Romanian word for the skylark.
Since their discovery by Ernst, who serves as their manager, they have played hundreds of venues in many countries across the globe.

OMFO

omfo

Our Men From Odessa.

Do you remeber, in the movie "Borat" when he is playing ping-pong with a guy looking as weird as him? Well, the music in the background is " Magic Mamaliga" from OMFO.

Describing the music they make isnt easy, its a mix of folk and electro, with some more drugs and God knows what else...So welcome to electronic Walachia, where folk meets Kraftwerk and where bizarre instruments and electronic sounds combine to create a whole new musical dimension.
With his ideas and his musicians he bravely goes where no human ear has dared to go before. Futurism meets folklore imaginaire: Ladies and Gentlemen, we are floating in Eastern European space

Discover and enjoy.

Therion

Music that will send shivers down your spine...to me was a case of love at fist earing.
A blend of lirical and metal, Therion's music takes its themes from different mythologies and is based on concepts ranging from occultism, magic and ancient traditions and writings.
Beginning as a death metal band,  this Swedish band, later turned to combining orchestral elements with their metal music, employing heavy use of choirs and classical musicians, not only as additions to but also as integral parts of the composition. The band is one of the first both commercial and audience successful heavy metal with fully live orchestra featured. It is also one of the bands which originated, popularised and highly influenced symphonic metal genre, cited as "the most adventurous metal band at present

Folkearth

Complicated this one...

Folkearth albums are inconsistent, and sound rather like compilations and the musical style vary from one track to another, some are closely related to black metal.
The band members also don't work all together, but rather with small groups, exchanging material they recorded with others. The music Folkearth makes is regular folk/viking metal, but the notable thing about it is that they incorporate a diverse selection of folk instruments, such as lute, nyckelharpa, shawm, saz and many others.
The main topic of Folkearth lyrical side are ancient history, beliefs and mythology, nordic mostly, but also celtic and greek. Folkearth songs are story telling and their purpose is to entertain, not to carry symbolic or personal message.
A delight.

Nouvelle Vague

Uma banda á parte

A sweet litlle thing, Nouvelle Vague are a French musical collective put together by arrangers Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux. Their name is a play on words referring simultaneously to their "Frenchness" and "artiness" (the '60s new wave of cult French cinema), the source of their songs (all covers of new wave and punk music), and their use of '60s Bossa nova-style arrangements (bossa nova meaning "new wave" or "new beat" in Portuguese).
On their first album, Nouvelle Vague, the group resurrected classics from the New Wave music era, and reinterpreted them in a saucy bossa nova style. The songs were stripped back to acoustic arrangements with lithe shaker rhythms achieved by gathering a parade of chanteuses from all over the world (six French, one Brazilian and one New Yorker) to sex up everyone from XTC and Modern English to The Clash and The Undertones. The covers include songs by Joy Division, Dead Kennedys, The Clash and Depeche Mode. The various female singers on Nouvelle Vague only performed songs they were not previously familiar with, to ensure that each cover would have a unique quality.

Rammstein

Mix a former member of the East german Stasi, electronic music, some serious guitar and drumm playing, add originality and you get these guys. Put it on high fire and some pyrotechnincs and you get Rammstein. What else is left to say? These guys rule the stage with powerfull and mind blowing music.

to be continued when I have time...
